Denver Fashion Weekend: Night One
Drumroll please….
FOLKS!
As you may well recall, I mentioned a little event that my city was hosting last weekend.
So please-
Allow me to present to you…
Denver Fashion Weekend!
Night one (Friday), the theme of the evening was High Fashion.
Let’s take a look at all of the glory and splendor that was Friday, March 25th.
Above you see the Runway prior to the show. I loved the floor seating and semi-rustic nature of how the event was staged.
So Denver.

I was in utter shock to find my seat directly in the center of the runway, front row.
You can’t tell by the back of my head, but I was drooling all over myself in complete shock.
And then! Lo!
Look who’s on the big screen!
I actually really loved what they did here. They had behind-the-scenes footage from the shoots for the Spring Fashion Issue (which is incredibly gorgeous, by the way), video from the Sex Issue Party, and the interviews from the 303 Awards Party!
{A dude at a table next to me goes, “is that you?” No buddy, it’s you.}

So, then the lovely and kind Cori from Barefoot PR escorted The Press backstage to take their pressy photographs.
Backstage we found:
Charlie Price! The Creative Director at 303Magazine.
Lost of shoes! And if I’m correct, 99% of these shoes say Jeffery Campbell on the sole.
The Halston Heritage gals. Ironically sporting the hair from Robert Rodriguez’s SS11 Collection. Not that it’s ironic in of itself, but it’s very ironic considering pieces from the Robert Rodriguez SS11 collection were in this show.
Hrm.
The beautiful Helmut Lang girls.
And if you actually followed the link to the Spring Fashion Issue, you will see that the very striking, very tall gal on the left was in that one awesome spread they did.
The Mixie girls.
Lovely, lovely girls.
But honestly- totally boring clothes.
And high fashion would not be the genre I would lump them into.
But still: hooray for up and coming designers!
She opened the show!
And there’s something that I really love about these getting-ready-shots.
It’s also quite silly to see the ridiculous contrast between all of the people who are working at the show (like the stylist above), who seem to be… unusually short…? Versus the models who are, if anything, unusually tall.
And lastly, some dingus taking notes.
Ooo! See, there she is!
I loved the look of this pink dress. It flowed like a dream…
It reminded me of a rose petal. You can’t quite see, but the hem was rounded, more so on the back- further proving my rose petal inspiration.
And all of the Halston Heritage gals lined up.
Actually, they aren’t “lined up.”
Friday’s show had some of the most curious and wonderful choreography that you could think of, keeping in mind that these girls were just walking.
It was pretty mind blowing.
And each collection had different choreography, as well as a different, mini video montage intro that spoke to either the collection or designer individually.
So here we have Mixie, which- don’t get me wrong- is totally great and I would certainly wear this striped sweater dress. But, it was very much a case of “one of these things is not like the other one…..”
And then they were like “Yeah? You bored with these dresses? How about some kick ass choreography to take your mind off it.”
It worked.
Ahh, and onto my favorite of the night.
Helmut Lang.
I thought very long and hard about mobbing the girl in back for her entire outfit head to toe.
What a dream. OH that blazer!
And such quirky walking.
It totally fulfilled my hopes and dreams for this collection.
I loved the styling with the halo of crimped hair and inky purple/black lipstick.
Plus, I really do feel as though this collection speaks the loudest in terms of Denver fashion.
We are much more subdued here than other cities. Sure, our cow town history has much to do with that, but either way, us Denverites know how to pull off great style without too much flash.
Muted chic.
{As you will later see- it’s a shame that the “Street Style” evening didn’t take more cues from Friday night.}
This was just perfect.
Eeee! They’re gonna collide!
Newp. Not one girl missed a single beat.
This was flawless and really did look absolutely amazing from the audience.
I was quite impressed.
And Stop Staring!
Again, this is absolutely not high fashion, but at least it’s good. At least it’s inspired. And at least these girls look like they belong in a fashion show.
And they couldn’t have chosen a better model to wear that military green dress and hat.
People kind of went a little crazy for this collection.
Perhaps they’ve just never seen it online?
I don’t know. But there were like…
Hoots
and
hollers.
And then to bring us full circle and close the show was the delightfully 70s glamazing Robert Rodriguez collection.
These pants dear lord these motherfucking pants.
Should I be ashamed to tell you that I slapped her bum backstage because I just wanted to touch these pants?
Probably.
But anyway- she is just so gorgeous and I loved seeing this white gold look on a redhead for some reason.
I just imagined a whole bunch of blonde barbies that would be impossible to tell apart.
Not so, Zoë.
Not so at all.
Expectations: surpassed.
I won’t talk about the choreography anymore, but we can all just agree that I want to be talking about it because it was awesome.
Awesome.
This collection is pretty great.
Anytime clothes can really make you want to do something, that’s a good sign.
Even if that thing has to do with disco.
OH YES!
And then- just like that- it was over.
I never realized how short fashion shows are.
Or maybe they’re just short in Denver.
It’s like a wicked sugar rush with a crazy, almost manic high.
But this evening, I certainly left with that high intact and carried it all the way home.
Bravo, bravo, bravo.
Stay tuned for DFW: Night Two
